Our educational approach at our state-subsidised school in Barcelona

In a safe and inspiring environment, we support and guide each pupil closely, with a global outlook that enriches their experience. We prepare them for the move up to Secondary, developing their creativity and their love of learning.

A trilingual school in Barcelona

An international education

At this stage, 33% of lessons are taught in English: alongside English itself, we teach Art, Social Science, Natural Science, Computer Science and Physical Education from 4º de Primaria (ages 9–10).

Our English teaching staff also have extensive international experience and are trained in a range of teaching methodologies, which helps our pupils to develop a good command of the language.

As a result, by the end of the stage pupils reach a level of comprehension and expression appropriate to their age, while preparing for the Cambridge Language Assessment examinations (A2/B1).

We also have our OAK Academies abroad, so that our pupils can take part in a term or full-year exchange, or a summer camp, in the USA, Ireland or Switzerland.

Academic excellence at our state-subsidised school in Barcelona

Our Primary curriculum

We encourage the cognitive, physical and emotional development of our pupils, promoting active learning and a real understanding of what they learn. To do this, we use a range of teaching strategies:

Pupils develop their curiosity by asking questions, researching and analysing information. They learn to plan activities and manage their time, as well as to theorise, summarise, compare and present their findings.

  • Cooperative learning: we encourage pupils to work in small groups, assigning roles that set challenges and encourage them to work towards a common goal.
  • Experiments using the scientific method: pupils explore concepts through observation and experimentation, strengthening their critical thinking.
  • Learning scenarios: we create rich contexts in which pupils can apply what they know to real situations.
  • Games: we use playful activities that make learning easier and encourage creativity.
  • Problem-based learning: we challenge pupils to solve real problems, developing their ability to analyse and find solutions.

Learning areas

Educational activities are enriched with programmes that address the key skills of this stage, such as:

  • Logical and mathematical thinking: we develop this through hands-on maths, which allows pupils to explore concepts in a practical, meaningful way.
  • Language development in all three languages: we build language skills in English, Spanish and Catalan, supporting effective communication and intercultural understanding.
  • Musical expression and art: learning to appreciate the work of great artists, understanding their techniques and using them as a means of expression and of developing their own creativity.

These approaches are designed to create an all-round learning environment in which every pupil can reach their full potential.

Personal accompaniment (one-to-one guidance and support)

Catholic formation

  • We want every pupil to experience being loved by Jesus Christ at school, and to discover that He is always beside them, supporting and loving them at every moment of their lives.
  • In each weekly religion lesson, pupils learn age-appropriate songs and prayers with a specialist teacher.
  • We guide them to discover Jesus as a friend and the path to happiness that He offers, so that they want to live Christian values and the Catholic faith, and grow into people of integrity.

Emotional and collaborative education

We believe that education should go beyond the academic. That is why we offer an all-round programme that supports the spiritual, emotional and social development of our pupils. Through our religion lessons, we teach them to pray and to live the virtues and values. We want them to feel part of a community that expresses the love of Jesus through taking part and giving generously.

We also have an emotional education programme that helps our pupils to build a solid foundation of values and develop skills for life.

None of this would be possible without parents. We value the importance of the family and work in partnership with them to give every child the very best.

Committed pupils

Committed to their growth

We shape our pupils’ character and emotions through the acquisition of virtues, with campaigns and activities tailored to each year group.

We encourage service to others through social action campaigns, teaching children how important it is to contribute to society and improve the world around them.

We promote love and respect, helping pupils to build honest relationships and to value themselves and others, developing their emotional and personal maturity.

We also teach environmental responsibility, encouraging pupils to reflect and to take an active part in initiatives to protect the natural world.

Through all of this, we want our pupils to become committed, empathetic and responsible people in every area of their lives.

Digital pupils

Pupils ready for the digital and technological age

Digital competence in Primary

We want to inspire our pupils to use technology responsibly, while developing their computational and creative thinking. Through varied, stimulating activities, we build their motivation and prepare them to tackle complex problems, helping them to understand those problems and to develop innovative, effective solutions.

Digital programmes and tools

We introduce our pupils to coding and computational thinking through robotics with Beebots, which we use across different areas of learning. We complement this with digital tools such as Smart Boards and digital microscopes, which enrich the development of these skills. With this technology, our pupils not only gain technical knowledge but also strengthen their ability to solve problems and to think critically and creatively.
