We are a Catholic, chartered, trilingual school whose mission is to provide personal support to students and their families in their pursuit of academic and holistic excellence. The walls of Santa Isabel School coexist with those of a monastery steeped in history, dating back to the 16th century, when it was founded as a beguinage for Franciscan tertiaries. In 1553, Juana Fornés joined the community and was elected mother superior. A year later, they acquired a larger house on Calle d’en Borra and established a chapel, which was elevated to a public church in 1561 under the patronage of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary.
As early as the 1940s, the convent’s chaplain, Monsignor Francesc Ros Vendrell, along with the nuns, promoted the creation of the Colegio Santa Isabel on part of the land the Poor Clares owned in Sarrià. In the mid-1990s, both the school and the monastery were entrusted to the Regnum Christi movement.
The legacy of the Monastery of Santa Isabel remains alive through its history of faith, service, and resilience, visible in its ongoing transformations and in the profound spiritual and cultural imprint it has left on the city of Barcelona.
