During the past few weeks I3 students have integrated themselves into the world of art and painting. They have learned different painting skills, use of materials, textures, and artists. The students learned that creating art is also a form of self-expression. I3 students showcased their artistic skills during last week’s art show at the Claustro.
The types of paintings drawn by the students varied in style according to the artist and technique used. Some students cut up paper and created collages; others used their hands to paint, self-portraits, and even group paintings. Parents walked around the school’s Claustro and got to see pieces of art like those of Yakoi Kusama, Hervé Tullet, Matisse…
Creating art at such a young age is less about the result and more about experimentation with different colors and materials. The students enjoyed showcasing their pieces but what they had the most fun with was the moment they got to be creative and paint for themselves.
Parents and teachers were surprised with the quality of the paintings; some had very detailed designs and appealing mixes of color. It was evident to the families of the children that these paintings were done with the foundation they had learned prior to painting.
Like every year, our school’s Claustro becomes a museum, and the paintings are more and more beautiful. This art show is one of the highlights of the year for I3 students and especially families.
